Hearing about the devastating injury and subsequent passing of champion freestyle skier Sarah Burke has left me, along with countless people around the world, wondering how something so horrible can happen so suddenly and tragically to someone with so much potential and life in front of them. When did all of this happen? Its like one minute I was getting my $5.00 weekly allowance from my parents to spend on stuffed animals and gummi bears, and now all of a sudden I’m standing here with a mortgage, car payment, and the joint responsibility of keeping myself, my husband, and our dogs alive, well fed, and happy.
