As human beings we tend to think, and make our judgements and assumptions purely from our perspective. It is completely natural to do so, as our perspective is how we view the world based on where we stand, where we come from and the opinions we have ingrained in our selves. While it is important to maintain your own perspective and sense of self, it is also very important to be able to push aside your perspective and acknowledge that it is a completely personal thing, and no two are 100% alike. By freeing yourself from the boundaries of your own perspective, you can view the world in a whole new light.
Perspective applies to everything we do and think. To one person, a house may seem like a mansion, to another, the same house may seem tiny. Two people engaged in an argument do so because they are seeing the same thing from two different perspectives. From religion and love to day-to-day encounters and how we view different situations, our perspective is just ours. It is infinitely valuable to be able to view things through other people’s eyes. Doing so will help you become a more passionate, accepting and open person. As a result, your own perspective may begin to shift as well.
One of the healthiest things you can do in an argument with someone, or any kind of altercation with a friend, spouse, or coworker is to take a step back and view the situation at hand as they would see it. Try to take yourself out of your head for a moment and look from the outside in on the situation. Unless the other person is just clearly out of their mind, which may very well happen, many times this can light up a gray area that explains the other person’s actions and can help you reach common ground faster than just holding on to your point of view and not budging.
If more people were able to step out of their minds for a moment and look at life through another perspective, there would be a lot more peace and understanding in the world. arguments could cease and people as a whole would become more respectful and tolerant. So do yourself and those around you a favor and look at things from a different perspective from now and then. You will be surprised how much light it can shed into your life.
