Like anyone else, I have days where I just feel down in the dumps. I don’t feel like going to work, I’m not happy with this or that, everything sucks and I can’t seem to be lifted out of my funk. It is SO easy to give into those feelings as they keep spiraling you downward in a vicious cycle of negativity, but why waste time and energy doing that?
I have been trying to recognize when I am slipping into one of those moods, and stop it in its tracks. To help me do so, I have been keeping a journal in which I write anything and everything I am happy for each day. Writing down all the reasons to be happy definitely helps to see the other side of the coin, and like magic the negativity seems to dissolve and all the “problems” become insignificant.
In general I am a happy person, so I have plenty to fill the pages of my journal with. It doesn’t need to be used only when you are down in the dumps, but writing about what makes me happy just makes you that much more appreciative and happy about the life you are living. So, here is to banishing bad moods and looking at the light. Life is short and our days our valuable, so take a pledge to focus on the good stuff so that you can really appreciate all the wonderful things around you.
